About VISR

The Vanderbilt Institute for Spatial Research (VISR) provides geospatial analysis and geophysical survey for diverse research projects within Vanderbilt and for clients throughout Nashville, middle Tennessee, and nationally. Our collaborations span the social sciences, humanities, medicine, public health, and epidemiology, STEM education, earth science, environmental health, and engineering. Our projects take place throughout the U.S. and globally.

We provide geospatial support for projects utilizing basic geospatial techniques (proximity analysis, overlay analysis, summary statistics, digitization) to more advanced spatial statistics (hot spot analysis, cluster analysis, density mapping, surface interpolation). Analysis is performed by a trained geospatial professional, and our staff have a deep understanding of spatial science and the unique implications of working with spatial data to solve location-oriented problems.

Facilities

VISR is a Vanderbilt core research facility with advanced geospatial computational resources, including a number of high spec workstations, servers, and a suite of commercial and open-source software tools. We also maintain a pool of geophysical and land survey instrumentation.
